Quick Update: Italy is locked down, all of it, til april 3rd.
Coronavirus measures have been extended nation wide.
Schools, cinemas, theaters are closed, smart working is the solution, when possible. Public Offices are closed to the people, bars can stay open til 6pm, no events of any type, staying home is mandatory.
People can leave home only with valid reasons that you need to prove through a certification (health, work), or to do the shop, because only food stores and the chemist's ones are open.
Pray for us and be careful out there.

Every day there are more and more cases in my state and the Centers for Disease Control are telling everyone to limit their time in public areas...so, of course, people are crowding into the stores. We have been packed to the rafters every day this week. And it sounds like a joke but people are hoarding toilet paper. Seriously. There was not a scrap of tp to be found in my community yesterday. We aren't under lockdown yet and people are panic buying and leaving nothing behind for others.

The last few days at work have been utter hell. On Friday, after the speech Trump gave about the virus and closing our borders, the Governor of my state closed the schools and told everyone to limit their time outside...so, of course, they all rushed to the shops. I work at an Aldi and we were, I am not kidding, wiped out. They swarmed in like locusts and cleaned the shelves bare. Yesterday we stocked what we got delivered but, again, they packed in and nothing was left. It's amazing to me that people can be told to limit social contact and wash their hands but there they are...packed cheek to jowl in the grocery store, not washing their hands after they use a public restroom and licking their fingers before handing the cashier their notes. Seriously, one woman gave me this big long angry speech about how we should have someone cleaning full time as people shop..and then she put her eft card in her mouth before she swiped it through the reader.

I was calm on my way to work yesterday but after a few hours around the throng of people in the store yelling at me and at each other and buying everything that wasn't bolted down, I started to panic myself. Seriously, a woman came through my line with a box of tampons and as soon as my eyes lighted on the box, something in my head snapped and I was in a mental tizzy wondering what I am going to do if I can't find any of those when I need them. When my shift was over I did some shopping and bought more food than I ever do at one time (I live alone and usually work nights so I don't keep a lot of food on hand because I'm no cooking much) and I bought tampons and soap and haircare products...no toilet paper because there was none to be found...and a box of wine because the liquor stores are to be close for two weeks (I know that sounds really silly to people outside of Pennsylvania, but our "Wine and Spirit" stores are still state-run and since the Governor shut down all nonessential state businesses, there will be no booze to be had for two weeks :P) I was just in a fog because even though I work in a grocery store and I will be there selling food to people, by the time I have the chance to get my own supplies, everything is gone. For real, our shelves have been completely bare by the end of the night. No bread, no eggs or milk...they leave nothing behind and if someone in my store gets sick and we have to shut down...I'm screwed. I felt a little foolish on my way home when I was calm again...of course, then I regretted the money I spent but...at least it will all get eaten and I won't have to food shop for a bit Sorry...I'm rambling. We all need the world governments to hand out free Xanax.
